Link #169 - Maud Thursday

It would be helpful for you to read John 13:1-17.

Jesus is preparing for the cross which is the ultimate expression of love the world has ever known. Here in John 13, knowing that the disciples would leave him, Jesus offers us the ultimate expression of humility. He takes on the roll of a servant to those he knows will turn away from him. This is an event that challenges me every time I read it. The last few verses are blunt.

JOHN 13:15-17

I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.  Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him.  Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

We are on our way to Easter morning and we are promised by the Lord that if we follow him (follow his example, follow his teaching) we will be bless - if we “do them”. Jesus sets us an example of servanthood, not that we would observe it but that we would follow his example. Today, in preparation for Good Friday take time to live out humble service. It is a good way to move towards Easter.
