Link #235 - ARE YOU HAPPY?
Greetings in the name of Jesus.
This weekend, through the Serenity Prayer, we explore a question that all of us seek to understand. That is right, it is a very simple question and yet so misunderstood. Have you really understood what is being asked of you when someone says “Are you happy?”? We are grateful for the Serenity Prayer that forces us to confront the truth of what happiness is all about. Join us Sunday morning at 10am for SUNDAY WORD as we seek God together and explore the opportunity we have to be “reasonably happy in this life”.
It was very interesting this week to read in CBC news that Canada had slipped to 18th place in the “World Happiness Report”. It seems Canadians are feeling less and less happy since 2005. What really struck me was some of the issues the report recognized as playing a roll in our happiness. Believe it or not “meal sharing” has an impact on happiness. Canada ranks 53rd in the world in terms of how many meals we share with others - and it has an undeniable influence on our happiness. I could not help but be reminded of the power of the Bloor Central Community Meal. I’ve had dozens of people say to me how they look forward to joining us on Saturdays even though they have food at home. It is a powerful experience to actually share a meal with someone and now it is being recognized as having impact on your mental health. We’d like to encourage you to join us on Saturday evening from 4-6 pm as we share a meal together. You can bring a friend, or come and meet a new one. The menu this week includes our freshly made cream of mushroom soup, Greek chicken, Greek salad and pita - with an orange slice and cookie for desert.
There are four quick reminders I’d like to offer.
If you have missed out on any of the Serenity Prayer lessons we have all of the previous sessions (including last Sunday) posted on our youtube channel. Look up Bloor Central on youtube and you should be able to find the audio post.
We are organizing a bike maintenance clinic for April. If you have a bike that needs basic maintenance please let me know so we can book you a spot to deal with tune ups or minor repairs. ( Doug.Hammond@salvationarmy.ca )
April 13 will be a farewell Sunday for Jahred and Jessica who have accepted ministry appointments in Bangladesh for the next three years. We’d like to encourage you to make a note of this special date.
As we progress through the season of lent we also want to remind you of our special reflection service on April 18, Good Friday.
So this is just another average weekend at Bloor Central, recognizing there is nothing average about a weekend at Bloor Central.
Blessings to all.
